THE USE OF MARKETING COMMUNICATION IN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES. THEORETICAL IMPLICATIONS

Alexandru GRIGORAȘ

Marketing communication in public universities is not a common topic in Romanian literature. If solid theoretical perspectives have been formulated on the marketing communication in private companies, the public sector has not received the same attention from the theorists. Thus, this paper aims at clarifying some of the concepts of marketing communication in public universities and setting the theoretical background for future research. The findings indicate that public organizations, and more precisely universities, apply their own marketing techniques, but are making efforts to align to the marketing strategies used in private companies.

HOW DOES TELEWORK ACT AS A SOLUTION TO THE PUBLIC SECTOR IN THE TIME OF PANDEMIC?

Jihad FRAIJ, Nemer ABURUMMAN

As Coronavirus COVID 19 became a global pandemic, and its repercussions have affected the global economy badly, teleworking was being forced as an alternative pioneer to be implemented in the public sector. This study will discuss adapting Telework as a solution in crisis times in developing countries (Jordan). Systematic Literature Review was adopted to explore the challenges and best practices for adopting Telework in the Public Sector, especially during the crisis. Afterward, interviews were conducted with experts, professionals, and academics from Jordan to discuss the best solutions for adapting Telework in the Jordanian Public Sector. This paper has found several challenges facing the adoption of Telework in the public sector, and they were mainly related to Security, Infrastructure, and Technological Illiteracy. Moreover, this paper has also suggested solutions through the interviews. The most prominent solutions focused on finding a legal framework for the Telework, providing appropriate infrastructure and equipment for the employees to work remotely, and offering frequent technical support for the teleworkers to ensure the Data's security and confidentiality. There was a lack of studies related to Telework in the public sector by reviewing the literature, especially in developing countries. This paper will be a reference for other researchers to explore the challenges and the solutions.

SYSTEMATIC REVIEW: DIGITAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP INTENTION

Mohammad Y. ALKHALAILEH

With the widespread use of online platforms and digital technologies, entrepreneurship is gaining tremendous traction, especially in the digital world. However, the entrepreneurship literature is full of studies on traditional entrepreneurship intentions, while little is known about digital entrepreneurs and digital entrepreneurship intentions. Therefore, this study aims to systematically review and structure the existing empirical literature to identify the main factors that positively and significantly influence digital entrepreneurship intentions. The primary data sources in this study were research articles and conference proceedings published in English from (2010 to 2020) on Google Scholar, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect databases. A systematic review approach was used to find a total of 18 related empirical articles. The results show the most common factors that have a positive and significant effect in predicting digital entrepreneurship intention among the reviewed articles. It was also found that few empirical studies have addressed digital entrepreneurship intention. The findings of the study contribute to the current literature in the field of digital entrepreneurship by presenting the significant factors that help students to start their online businesses.

THE IT LEADERSHIP - TOWARDS CORPORATE DIPLOMACY. A GENERAL ASSESSMENT

Ioana GUȚU

The current research takes into consideration the IT industry from Iasi, Romania; the view over the software development branch is assessed from a double point of view: at first, the transformational leadership is considered, as actions, behaviors, attitudes, influence over the team and company members. The second assessment develops in regard with the organizational workforce innovation, when companies’ results are seen as a predictor of how individuals behave at work and drive the company towards innovative performance. The research uses two 5 Likert Scale instruments wildly known within the literature; the transformational leadership is being measured with the help of MLQ 5X, by assessing the transformational leadership with the help of five dimensions: idealized influence (behavior and attributes), inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration. The Workforce Innovation Scale (WIS) regards innovation on four dimensions: organizational, individual and team innovation, along with the specific climate for innovation. The current research shows partial results by using the responses of 175 questionnaires, where the transactional leaders are being characterized in the light of leading workforce within the companies they work with, towards innovation. The IT leader has a similar profile of a general corporate diplomat.

THE EFFECT OF TECHNOLOGY EVOLUTION ON THE FUTURE OF JOBS

Ayat Sami ODEIBAT

Organisations are integrating Artificial Intelligence applications and automation technologies into their businesses to gain benefits like cost reduction, long-term automation strategy development and efficiency improvement without putting less pressure on human resources and to enhance competitiveness and sustainability. The current situation has prompted vague futurity for the workforce and speeded up the future of jobs arrival. It has created fears of modern technologies causing job replacement or loss and a conspicuous increase in unemployment. This article investigates the effect of adopting AI application technologies and automation in the future of jobs. The study confronts the questions below: Will human resource management hire machines instead of people? How will technology affect the tasks and job roles? What is the impact of automation on employees? A set of previous studies has been reviewed. The results of these studies show many possible scenarios for the future of jobs: (1) routine jobs and those requiring lower skills will disappear and will be replaced by technologies; (2) a new structure will be developed for job roles and tasks that need more human-machine integration; (3) an advanced job opportunity will appear, especially the positions that require more creativity and highly technical skills.

NEGATIVE ONLINE CUSTOMER REVIEWS IN RESTAURANT DINING EXPERIENCE: WHAT ARE THE DETERMINING FACTORS OF SERVICE FAILURE AFFECTING BEHAVIORAL INTENTIONS?

Inda PREMORDIA, Timea GÁL

Present study empirically examined the determining factors of service failure in restaurant dining experience leading to negative online reviews and, thus, behavioral intentions (i.e., repeat purchase and recommendation to others). The findings underline that (1) any service mishap with regard to food quality and cleanliness triggers customer participations in negative online reviews, switching intentions and discouragement for potential customers to purchase; (2) service quality is a strong and important determining factor of service failure affecting behavioral intentions and is superior relative to other significant predictors; (3) frontline staff attitude is likely to prompt dissatisfied customers to engage in negative online reviews and cause an effect on price sensitivity, however it does not necessarily influence behavioral intentions; (4) contrary to prior research, price-value significantly affects behavioral intentions. In the presence of dissatisfaction influenced by poor food quality and frontline staff attitude, price sensitivity increases; therefore, it stimulates behavioral intentions. Further elaboration of the findings is also discussed therein with insights for marketing practice.

THE ROLE OF THE BANK LOAN RELATED INFORMATION OF THE NOTES IN ENTREPRENEURIAL DECISION-MAKING – EVIDENCE FROM HUNGARIAN ENTREPRISES

Dóra KEREZSI

In order to achieve business goals, improve business performance, create value, and support effective decision-making, it is important that decision-makers and stakeholders have relevant information about the development of corporate performance so far and the factors influencing performance. Available information influences decisions; improperly selected, incomplete, distorted information might provide a misleading picture and lead to bad decisions. Businesses can obtain decision support information about their external market actors primarily through data obtained from their annual statement. Consequently, the notes to the financial statement, which are intended to ensure the sound and real financial and profitability position of the enterprise, are one of the main sources of information. The research goal was to assess the extent to which business managers and economic professionals are supported by information from the notes of their partner companies, and to what extent some additional information on bank loans is considered important for decision support in addition to mandatory content elements. The research was performed by using a questionnaire survey.

THE ROLE OF UNIVERSITIES IN PROMOTING DIGITAL ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTION AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN JORDAN

Mohammad Y. ALKHALAILEH

In today's world, technology has taken a place so drastically that everything is being digitalized. Universities play a critical role in promoting entrepreneurship, providing the right entrepreneurial education, and contributing to economic and social development. However, few studies have examined the role of business incubators in universities. Therefore, the study explores the status of entrepreneurship education and incubation services and the effect of entrepreneurial self-efficacy on supporting digital entrepreneurship intention among the students at public and private universities in Jordan. Eighty-one students’ responses were received from three universities through an online questionnaire. The result of multiple linear regression confirmed that there is a significant and positive relationship between digital entrepreneurship intention and each of the following factors: entrepreneurship education, business incubation, and entrepreneurial self-efficacy. The study findings contribute to the current literature of digital entrepreneurship, by representing the significance of universities supporting systems in stimulating the students to start their own online businesses.

INNOVATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE BUSINESS OF ELECTRONICS: THE CASE OF SAMSUNG COMPANY

Sorin-George TOMA, Ştefan-Alexandru CATANĂ

During the time, entrepreneurship has brought many benefits (e.g., economic growth, employment generation, poverty reduction, innovations) to various stakeholders, such as society, communities, people, or companies As a multifaceted and eclectic concept, a policy area, and a complex and dynamic phenomenon, entrepreneurship displays a creative and innovative dimension. This assertion is based on the fact that entrepreneurship has three main functions: operating a firm, risk-taking, and innovation. The aims of the paper are to briefly define the concept of innovative entrepreneurship and to illustrate the case of Samsung Electronics Co., one of the world’s biggest electronics companies. In order to achieve these objectives, the authors used a quantitative research method and a case study. The paper provides the theoretical framework to deeper understand the concept of innovative entrepreneurship as the authors have designed a definition of this term. Also, it shows that innovative entrepreneurship is embedded in the business philosophy of Samsung Electronics.

COMPLEXITY METRICS IN DEVELOPING APPLICATIONS AND A METHOD FOR COST STANDARDIZATION

Manuela PETRESCU, Emilia Loredana POP

The digitization process has grown exponentially in the last decade, and does not show any signs of slowing down, as more and more money are invested in automatic processing, in e-government services and e-divestment. In this context, the problem of cost standardization appears for digital application acquisitions performed by the public services or by economic entities that are connected to the states. In the public auctions, especially those that are funded with European money or public money, the price for digital applications exceeds the average rates, and sometimes the developed applications do not meet the expectations or are not able to cope with the data volumes. Thus, there is the need of having a price standardisation for the digitization process, and here is suggested a method to find a solution for this problem. In this paper, a method that takes into consideration economical, architectural, licensing, complexity factors in order to compute a quotation for a product is proposed. This method is a tool that can be useful for the service providers and the beneficiaries and help them understand the implications of their decisions, of the different workflows in terms of final cost.

IMPACT OF BIG DATA ON BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE AND DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEMS

Mohammad Rashid SAADAT, Patrick SIEGFRIED

Big Data is now poised to mutate decision-making systems. Indeed, the decision is no longer based solely on the structured information that was hitherto collected and stored by the organization, but also on all data not structured outside the corporate straitjacket. The cloud and the information it contains impacts decisions and the industry is witnessing the emergence of business intelligence 3.0. With the growth of the internet, social networks, connected objects and communication information are now more abundant than ever before, along with rapid and substantial growth in their production. In 2012, 2.5 exabytes of data (one exabyte representing a million gigabytes of data) came every day to swell the ranks of big data (McAfee et al., 2012), which should weigh more than 40 zettabytes from 2020 (Valduriez, 2014) for 30 billion connected devices (The Internet Of Nothings, 2014) and 50 billion sensors (Davenport & Soulard, 2014). One of the most critical aspects of all of this information flow is the impact these will have on the way decisions are made. Indeed, in the part of an environment in which data was scarce and difficult to obtain, it was logical to let decision-making be conditioned by the intuition of the experienced decision-maker (Klein, Phillips, Rall, & Peluso, 2007). However, since information and knowledge are now available to everyone, the role of experts and decision-makers is gradually changing. Big data, in particular, makes it possible for analytical and decision-making systems to base their decision-making on global models. However, considering all the dimensions of the situations encountered, it was not until now that these systems were not within the reach of man, but were rationally limited (Simon & Newell, 1971). Big data and however, the processing of unstructured data requires modifying the architecture of decision support systems (DSS) of organizations. This paper is an inventory of developments undergone by aid systems decision-making, under the pressure of big data. Finally, it opens the debate on ethical questions raised by these new technologies, and it is observed that now, data analysis of personal data has become more debatable than in the past.

GENERATIONAL PERSPECTIVES ON COOPERATIVES IN A SOUTH-EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRY

Alina-Elena IOSIF

The paper is about understanding different generational perspectives on cooperatives in a country that has passed from communism to capitalism. The aim of this paper is to capture how different generations are currently perceiving the cooperatives considering their historical background. The work is based on a projective study by using the technique of free association of different keywords to the cooperative or non-cooperative area by the respondents, followed by group discussions. The results of the study reveal that the new generations are opened to integrate cooperatives into their life if they appropriately act as hybrid organizations by prioritizing their social purpose. Moreover, the paper emphasizes on the dimensions of “hybridity”, “agriculture” and “proximity” as the main pillars that could support the development of cooperatives in a capitalist marketplace that is ready to overcome the past experiences coming from the communism.

TRIGGERS OF BORN GLOBAL COMPANIES

Anca BUTNARIU, Florin Alexandru LUCA

This paper presents an investigation of the factors that lead to the early and fast internalization process of some small and medium firms that thus become born global companies. In the context of the failure of traditional internationalization theories to explain the fast development and international success of these companies, several theoretical recent developments should be used to explain this phenomenon. A conceptual framework comprising the pre-requisites of these companies is proposed in the paper, on the base of an extensive review of earlier research on several strategic management theories with roots on Resource-Based View and on international entrepreneurship theory. The conclusion is the rapid and successful internationalization of born globals can be theoretically enlightened by viewing it through the combined lenses of several approaches and offer a solid base to be tested in future studies.
